Ray (the Director) and his wife Joanne met Ruth and Jeff (the story's real-life heroes) back in 2001. After sharing a meal together and hearing Ruth and Jeff's life story, Ray felt compelled to share their story with the world.

With his newfound passion for film and television, Ray began the story with his first trip to Kenya. Armed with a basic script, an FM microphone, a Sony PD150 DV camera, and his 9 year old son Josh, acting as assistant, Ray began capturing the key interviews with Jeff, his family and various others who played a key role in Jeff's turbulent upbringing.
